so baje last night was bashment. The overall vibe wasn't there at all but as usual all i needed was the cheese and Gpooh and I had a good excuse to get on like I was on the road kadooment day. I didnt even mind that big sis got all the attention:) and it was nice showing her the who's who of bimshire society.

And it is just too funny how small Barbados is and what similar taste all my exes have.

Speaking of exes the "first love" comes in today. Should be cool to see him after all these years.

oh and im broke. ive decided to go to booze cruise for the first time this year. so between that, my over priced costume and my lack of employment... my money has been spent.
but its all right. I've seen machel's performance like 5 times already so i wont be missing anything at power x four tonight. I'll think of it as "saving myself" for the road:D

i went to the beach yesterday. it was heavenly. great company too.

ok thats all folks

More Than A Carnival - Crop Over Sweet Fuh Days

Maybe right now isn't the best time to be writing this blog since my festival fever has been replaced by some kind of reality-induced hypothermia. But I was just watching Mikey's performance from last year and my pride in this little thing we have going on here called Crop Over was rekindled.

WARNING: It's long and probably not meant for casual reading. It's simply my personal expression of pride in my island merriment.

so why I love Crop Over- the partying

Amongst Friends - I thoroughly enjoy carnival in Trinidad. The music and the atmosphere and my partial anonymity lends to a feeling of true freedom. But nothing beats going to a fete in Barbados and having endless dancing partners. Also my Trini sistren are great but the B Girls bring a different kind of comfortable flavour to my festival experience.

Nobody Can Spin Pooch Like Bajans - God bless the Trinis for perfecting the wine but Im the kinda woman that needs something a little stiffer than that when Im in the throes of soca ectasy. And NO ONE can move their waist as expertly as a Bajan man. The gyrations of the Grasskirt Crew are a sight to behold. And I appreciate such movementations all the more when my bumper is on the receiving end.

Kadooment Day - In Trinidad I LOVE the thought of finishing one day and having a whole other day to go. However, alot of the enjoyment in TnT is low key. Lots of chipping down the road. Lots of pretty girls re-applying makeup and rushing the cameras when they get the opportunity.

None of that in Barbados. We couldn't take two days of Kadooment. It's as though we know we only have limited time to cram all the enjoyment. From the time we leave the stadium there's no easing up.

Granted the route could be longer, I dont want to reach Spring Garden til its getting dark... But the party doesnt wane or rest. If anything it's reaching an awesome crescendo by the time we but up on "De Mental".

With that said, it sickens me to hear Bajan artists talking about our "cahnival" or "pah-ty". Or seeing Trini socialites modelling our costumes. Or Bajans acting like trini carnival is God's gift. Kudos to Lil Rick for keeping it 100% Bajan all of the time.

What we have here is SUPERB. It holds its own against the bigger Trinidad carnival ANY DAY. Where they can pack huge venues we have the benefit of a more intimate celebration. Where their costumes are massive productions of art ours are just pieces of cloth that get in the way of a good pelt waist (albeit increasingly more expensive pieces of cloth).

When they chipping down the road sedately trying not sweat off their foundation, we wukking up on every Tom, Dick and Green Smelling Harry the WHOLE WAY THROUGH. And best of all... when they have "crossing the stage" to look forward to we have diving into Brandon's sea, half drunk and sporting the remnants of our costume. Perfect post climatic activity.

And FINALLY, Crop Over is mine. Im not intruding on anyone's party or a guest in anyone's home.

This is we culture!

Now tell me. what can beat that?

Sweet, Sweet TnT
My trip was wonderful.
The wedding true trini form. Starting with a good catholic church service and ending with a good party. The newlyweds' first dance was to "Dance With You" by Machel Montano.

It was cool to see everyone again. And the bride was lovely and glowing. Imagine 10 years with the same guy and you're still relieved that you're finally married.

The food I got everything on my list except doubles and KFC.

The MUT Distance does wonders for a relationship. Every moment you share in the same space is so precious.

MUT was super sweet and attentive and affectionate. He took great care of me and I fell for him all over again.

Now it's back to single life reality.
But I got enough (essence of male) to last me a very long time.

satisfied.
